The continuation of the 3rd day of the group stage of the CAF Champions League saw a tightening in group B between Etoile du Sahel, Al Ahly and Al-Hilal, and the awakening of a goal scorer in group C, with the hat-trick scored by Ayoub El Kaabi for Wydad against Petro de Luanda (4-1). Halfway through this phase, no team really stood out.

After the three games played on Friday , the third day of the group stage ended on Saturday with the other five matches scheduled. And this time, there was no match without a goal, even if the offensive spectacle was not the same on all terrains (11 goals in 5 games, including 5 between Wydad and Petro de Luanda).

Zamalek does not take advantage

After the draw between Primeiro de Agosto and Almighty Mazembe on Friday (1-1), the Zamalek had the opportunity to get closer to the Congolese at the head of group A. The Egyptians, traveling on the ground of Zesco United, n '', however, failed to do better than a draw too (1-1). At the Levy-Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola, visitors conceded many chances but scored first with a header from Mostafa Mohamed (72nd). Zesco United, however, quickly equalized via Quadri Aladeokun, present at the far post (78th).

TP Mazembe thus remains at the top of group A (7 points), always three steps ahead of the Zamalek (4 points). Zesco follows with 2 points, like Primeiro de Agosto, who has the least difference in goals.

Three 6-point teams in group B

End of the bitter year for the Etoile du Sahel. After two wins in two games, the Tunisians hoped to pass three at home against Al-Hilal. Alas, they have missed their target too many times on their numerous offensives. And the penalty fell shortly before the hour of play with this distant, powerful and precise shot from Althar El Tahir directly into the small net (58th). A single goal which was enough for the happiness of the Sudanese.

In the other meeting of the group, the Egyptians of Al Ahly dominated the Zimbabweans of Platinium (2-0) thanks to a double signed Walid Soliman (8th, 69th on penalty). Zimbabwe champion FC Platinum is the only team in this group stage to have lost its three games. On the other hand, the Etoile du Sahel, Al Ahly and Al-Hilal are now tied with 6 points, and only the goal difference allows them to be classified from 1st to 3rd place.

Mamelodi in mind, El Kaabi sees triple

Big frustration for USM Algiers, who bowed at home to Mamelodi Sundowns on a big mistake. The South Africans were however not particularly dangerous in this meeting. It was even the Algerians who got the best opportunities. But an ill-assured back pass from Mustapha Kheiraroui benefited Hlompho Kekana. The midfielder took advantage of the offering to feint the goalkeeper and score in the empty goal (59th).

Finally, in the last match of the day, Wydad Casablanca finally took off after conceding two draws. Opposed to Petro de Luanda, the WAC turned to Ayoub El Kaabi, the striker on loan from Hebei China Fortuna this summer. The Moroccan, a former keeper of Racing Athletic and the Renaissance of Berkane, simply scored a hat-trick (29th, 79th, 90 + 3rd on penalty), while the Angolan club reduced the gap by Tony (68th) and that Wilson unfortunately scored against his camp (84th). With this clear victory (4-1), Wydad took 2nd place alone with 5 points behind the Mamelodi Sundowns (7 points). USM Alger (2 points) and Petro de Luanda (1 point) follow. Ayoub El Kaabi is the second top scorer in the competition (3 goals) behind Jackson Muleka of the Almighty Mazembe (4 goals).
