Spain has just entered into full force in the conflict between Mexico and Bolivia following a diplomatic incident which is already causing a stir. Indeed, the Spanish government is accused by the Bolivian administration of having attempted to exfiltrate a former right-hand man of Evo Morales.

Several hooded men, Spaniards, wanted to enter the Mexican embassy in La Paz , where 11 ex-relatives of the former Bolivian president are taking refuge. However, the Bolivian authorities intervened until they discovered that they were Spanish police officers who were escorting the charge d'affaires and the Spanish consul, visiting the embassy. Very angry at this incident, the Bolivian executive accuses Madrid of wanting to torpedo its sovereignty.

Spanish opposition takes up case

The affair also splashed Spanish domestic policy. The conservatives and the far right party Vox demanded explanations and did not hesitate to accuse the socialist party of wanting to help Evo Morales by organizing the flight of members of its former government.

For her part, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs only announced the opening of an internal investigation and the dispatch of investigators to the site. It is only when the investigation is closed that it will speak to Parliament.
