A Syrian refugee, who was disabled after being shot by the Greek Coast Guard during his chase in 2014, is asking the Greek state for compensation of 100,000 euros (111,000 dollars), according to a report published on Saturday.

The Greek daily, "Democratiki" reported that the 68-year-old man, who is currently residing in Sweden, filed a complaint with a court on the island of Rhodes.

The Syrian refugee was seriously injured in September 2014 when the Greek Coast Guard shot a boat smuggling migrants during a long hunt near Kalymnos Island.

The smuggler had previously tried to hit the coast guard boat and drown it, which led to the injury of a member of the device, according to what the authorities announced at the time.

The Coast Guard had previously reported that it was not possible during the pursuit to monitor about ten asylum seekers who were on the boat.
