• Cuba. The Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba will certify in March the withdrawal of Raúl Castro

The plan designed by Raúl Castro to strengthen the Cuban revolution with a new architecture of power has today a new political figure: Manuel Marrero . The new prime minister of Miguel Díaz-Canel's cabinet for the next five years has previously served as Tourism Minister, a position for which he was elected by Fidel Castro in 2004.

Marrero, always focused on tourism, was not in the pool of leading candidates. "Despite the resurgence of the US blockade that directly impacts Cuban tourism, we reach four million international visitors and go for more," the new prime minister announced 10 days ago.

His role in the new cabinet, as number 3 of the regime, is equivalent to that of the head of Government, who is responsible for rendering accounts of the Executive both to President Díaz-Canel and to the National Assembly of Popular Power. Raúl's political successor was in charge of presenting his name to Parliament, as well as that of the Deputy Prime Ministers, among which are leading leaders of the revolution. At the head, Commander Ramiro Valdés, the only one of the old guard of Sierra Maestra, one of Fidel's main men for half a century.

The other vice ministers are Roberto Morales, current vice president of the State Council and former Minister of Health; Minister Inés Chapman; Ricardo Cabrisas, one of the architects of economic reforms; Alejandro Gil, current Minister of Economy and responsible for solving the current acute crisis and Luis Fonseca, who served as Vice President of the Council of Ministers.
