December 21, 2019It went viral in Chile - but also outside its borders - the video in which an anti-government protester is crushed by two armored personnel from the police in Plaza Italia in Santiago. The episode occurred on Friday, but was only made known today.

The images show a young man hooded in the square while other demonstrators throw objects of all kinds against two vans of the Carabineros. In the crowd, the young man ends up squeezed between the two fast moving vehicles. The 20-year-old protester reported fracture of the pelvis and various injuries to internal organs, according to Chilean media it is serious but not life threatening.

Two months of protests against Piñera
Protests in Chile broke out on October 18 due to the increase in the Santiago metro ticket, but the first riots triggered a wider mobilization against the government of Sebastián Piñera and to ask for policies of greater social equality.
