Residents in the Hassi area, in the city of Khor Fakkan in the Emirate of Sharjah, confirmed that the narrow tunnels for drainage of rain water into the internal streets caused large quantities of water to gather and dash into their homes, which caused them great losses.

They also stressed the interruption of electricity for long periods, exceeding 12 hours, calling for the completion of the sewage network in their area, and the development of quick solutions to solve the problem of water pools, which are repeated at this time of each year.

For his part, the director of the Municipal Council in Khor Fakkan, Dr. Rashid Al-Naqbi, said that the council addressed the responsible authorities to find an appropriate solution to the problem of water gathering in the streets of the gravel area, noting that there are practical steps to address the problem.

In detail, Abu Jassim, a resident of the Hassi area, said: “Since 2006, we have been asking the authorities for a clear explanation of the accumulation of rain water and its entry into our homes, but we have not received a specific answer, to discover, finally, that the reason is that the streets of the region lack channels To drain the rain water. ”

He continued, "We tried to communicate with the responsible authorities to find a solution to this problem, but that each side was aiming at the responsibility of the other side."

Mohammed Ibrahim, a resident of the area, said that "water bodies cut off the roads completely, as ponds formed in the road leading to the dwellings, so the vehicles, or the school bus, could not cross them and reach the area."

He continued that «the streets of the interior region are higher than the level of houses, which leads to the accumulation of water when the rains fall. As a result, vehicles are damaged and unable to walk the streets. "The problem becomes greater with no lighting due to the power outages, and then our connection to the world is cut off."

(Umm Muhammad), who has lived in the area for more than 10 years, said that the main road problem in the city is no different from what is found in its internal roads.

And she added that «temporary solutions, such as placing earth mounds in front of houses to prevent the flow of water into them, are no longer useful. Rather, the situation worsens, due to the formation of mud and its entry into the rooms, which damages the furniture and leaves more material losses.

In addition, the director of the Municipal Council of Khor Fakkan, Dr. Rashid Al-Naqbi, confirmed that complaints were received from the people of the Hassi area continuously, due to the entry of rain water into the houses, which prevents them from leaving, and causes vehicles to fail, pointing out that the council initiated to address the responsible authorities, to find a solution Appropriate.
