December 13, 2019The Justice Commission of the US Chamber of Deputies approved the resolution containing the two articles of impeachment by President Donald Trump. In two successive votes, the first article was approved, that of abuse of power, and then the second, obstruction to Congress, with 23 yes Democrats and 17 non-Republicans. Now the articles will go to the classroom where, it is expected, the vote will take place next week.

With the Commission's historic vote, Trump becomes the third president in history to be charged.

A vote that was expected yesterday evening but was postponed by the president of the commission, the New York democrat Jerrold Nadler, after a debate that lasted a good 14 hours. "In this way, deputies may have time to search their consciences," said Nadler, late Thursday evening, provoking the wrath of his Republican colleagues.

The harshest attacks came from Doug Collins, a Republican from Georgia, who saw yesterday's decision as the definitive break in the relationship between the two parties. According to the Republicans, Nadler has postponed the vote on impeachment articles against Donald Trump to date, only to allow greater media coverage.

Now the ball goes to Congress. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has leaked out that she wants to close the impeachment vote by Christmas.
