His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, sent a congratulatory message to President Abdel Majeed Taboun, on the occasion of his victory in the presidential elections of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, also sent two similar messages of congratulations to President Abdul Majeed Tabun.

The former Algerian Prime Minister, Abdelmajid Taboun, won the presidential elections by 58.15%, to become president from the first round, according to what the Independent National Elections Authority announced yesterday.

"Candidate Abdul Majeed Tabun received four million and 945,000 votes, or 58.15%," in elections marked by a record percentage of the boycott, Authority Chairman Mohamed Sharafi said in a press conference to announce the results of the elections that took place on Thursday.

The candidate Abdul Qadir Bin Qurainah came second, with 17.38% of the votes expressed.

As for the candidate Ali bin Falis, he came third, and received only 10.55%, that is, less than the last election he entered against the resigning former president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika in 2014, where he obtained more than 12% of the votes, and he then denounced “a comprehensive forgery of the results.”

The fourth candidate, Ezzedine Mihoubi, who was described by the media as a candidate for power, won 7.26% of the vote, while Abdelaziz Belaid finally came to 6.66% of the votes expressed.

According to the final results of the authority, the percentage of participation inside the country reached 41%, while the total percentage abroad was 39%, and the final participation rate overall reached 39.83% out of more than 24 million voters.

In addition, the National Authority praised the army's role in achieving what it described as achievement.

It also considered that Algeria entered a new stage to achieve democracy and popular will, by holding these presidential elections.

Sharafi previously reported that the participation rate of the Algerian community abroad reached 8.69%, equivalent to more than 78,000 votes out of a total of more than 914,000 registered voters.

The high participation rates in Algeria were achieved in the cities of the high western and southern highlands, especially the states of Adrar, Laghouat, Bashar, Tamanrasset, Tindouf, Saida, Sidi Bel Abbes, El Bayadh, Ouargla, and Mascara. My honor was, he admitted that the percentage of participation in the presidential poll was very small in some areas, referring to the tribal region in which the election was prevented, due to "the factors that citizens intercepted in the performance of their electoral duty."

In Tunisia and Abu Dhabi, the largest participation of the Algerian community abroad was recorded at 18.65% and 17.96%, respectively, while the weakest participation was in Paris and Berlin by 4.49% and 5.2%, respectively.

The camp of candidate Abdel-Majid Taboun, who assumed the premiership for a short period during the era of Bouteflika in 2017, announced on Thursday evening his victory from the first round, according to what some polls showed, followed by the candidate Abdel-Qader Bin Quraina.

"According to the first elements we have, Abdul Majeed Tabun won the presidential elections," said Abdul Latif Belqayim, assistant director of the media office, for the candidate.

The presidential election process was characterized by a record abstention and a strong rejection by the popular protest movement that led to Bouteflika's resignation last April.

The Constitutional Council will announce the final results of the presidential elections from December 16 to 25.

Taboun, who is 74 years old, is the eighth president of the republic in Algeria, since the country's independence from France in 1962, after Ahmed Bin Bella (1962-1965), Houari Boumediene (1965-1978), and Al-Shazly bin Jadid - (1979-1992) , And the heads of the Higher State Council, Mohamed Boudiaf (January 1992-June 1992), Ali Kafi (1992-1994), Yamin Zeroual (1994-1999), and Abdelaziz Bouteflika (1999-2019).

The demonstrators gathered in the center of Algiers yesterday to express their opposition to the president-elect, Abdel Majid Taboun, who is close to his predecessor, Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The protesters accuse the five candidates, Abdelaziz Belaid, Ali bin Falis, Abdul-Qadir bin Qurainah, Izz al-Din Mihoubi, and Abdel-Majid, who appear to be the children of the regime and support him by running.
