So, in 2018, there were 1.54 million patients with a diagnosis of “diseases characterized by high blood pressure” (hypertension) in the country.

Compared with 2008, this indicator increased by 57% - then there were 979 thousand such patients in the country.

In 2017, 1.41 million patients with hypertension were registered (9% less than in 2018).

Sergei Boytsov, the chief non-staff cardiologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District, Ural Federal District, Siberian Federal District and Far Eastern Federal District, in an interview with RT, indicated that these figures are the number of newly diagnosed patients with such a diagnosis for the indicated years. According to the expert, these data reflect an increase in the detection of this disease.

At the same time, he noted that the prevalence of hypertension in men under 65 years of age did indeed increase by 13% between 2003 and 2017. According to Boytsov, this is mainly due to an increase in the number of obese men.

“The prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) in the Russian Federation is very high. According to epidemiological studies, only among men under 65 years of age, the incidence of hypertension is 49%, and among women - 40%. At the same time, about 42% of men and about 62% of women take drugs to lower blood pressure, therefore, the task of identifying patients with hypertension is one of the most important in the framework of the medical examination and preventive medical examinations of the adult population, ”added Boytsov.

Earlier, specialists from the Children's Health Research Center for Children's Health of the Russian Ministry of Health named hypertension among the most common diseases among Russian schoolchildren.
