09 December 2019 Four out of ten companies use a fast or ultra-fast fixed connection. This was announced by Istat in the report on ICT companies explaining that in 2019 the share of those with at least 10 employees accessing the Internet using fast connections continues to increase: 41% at least 30 Mbps (13.5% in 2015), 13.8% those at least 100 Mbps (6.2%). 16.1% of manufacturing companies have a high or very high level of digitization. The number of companies that supply portable devices (such as computers, smartphones, tablets, iPads) that allow a mobile Internet connection for business / work purposes is increasing (62.4%, 60.5% in 2018).

Overall, 49.9% of employees use a computer connected to the Internet to do their work (47.6% in 2018). The intensity of use of the mobile connection concerns 25.0% of employees in companies with at least 10 employees (22.8% in 2018). Among companies with 10-49 employees, around six out of ten (59%) claim to use mobile connections for work and to provide, for this purpose, portable devices to 19.9% ​​of their workforce (18.1 % in 2018). The share rises up to 29.5% among the workers of larger companies, the latter in 95.3% of cases declare to use mobile connections for work activities. Among companies with at least 10 employees connected to the Internet in fixed broadband, the maximum speed of connection grows with the company size, without particular territorial differences at the level of macro-distribution. However, at regional level there is a good performance of companies in the South: Calabria, Campania, Sicily and Molise rank among the top ten regions for share of Internet-connected companies at download speeds of at least 30 Mbps. The share of connected businesses with at least 30 Mbps it is equal to about 43% in the South and in the North West while it stands at 39.7% in Central Italy and 38.9% in the North East. Compared to 2015, the number of connected SMEs increased by at least 30 Mbps (40.4%, 13.1% in 2015). In the same period, large companies with fast connections increased to 75.9% from 40.1%.
