December 07, 2019Flight to the European Film Awards "The favorite" by the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos with his intrigues, revenge, low blows and jealousies at the court of Queen Anne of England in the early 700s and gets eight statuettes: film, director, best actress Olivia Colman (winner of the Coppa Volpi in Venice and of the Oscar), best comedy, to which are added four technical prizes (photography, editing, costumes and make-up). And Italy, despite the four nominations for "Il traditore" by Marco Bellocchio (film, director, screenplay and leading actor, Piefrancesco Favino), brings nothing home.

At the 32nd edition of the Efa well also "Dolor y gloria" by Pedro Almodóvar, although the two major awards are missing: film and director. Antonio Banderas wins the award for best actor for this film which is a kind of Amarcord of the Spanish director, but the film also goes to the technical prize for set design. The Spanish actor, absent in Berlin, live on Skype, commenting on the award, saying he was happy to be "the alter ego of Almodóvar, a person I love and esteem" and regretted not being able to attend due to theater commitments.

During the evening, two standing ovations for the French actress Juliette Binoche, who received the European Contribution Award at the World Cinema, and for Werner Herzog who received the lifetime achievement award.
