At least four people died as a result of firing in the state of Florida at the base of the US Navy Pensacola. The assailant himself is among the dead. In addition, about 10 injured were reported. According to local media, the incident occurred at about 06:30 local time (14:30 Moscow time).

“By the end of the day, the base will be closed. Only core personnel will be allowed into its territory. More detailed information will be provided later, ”the report said on the page of the naval base in Pensacol on Facebook.

Shortly before, it was reported that both exits from the base were currently closed due to reports of firing. At the same time, the office of the sheriff of the district of Escambia, in which the air base is located, announced the elimination of the shooter.

In turn, the governor of Florida, Ron Desantis, said he was following the situation, the state police department was ready to provide all necessary assistance to local law enforcement agencies.

The White House also reported that the incident was reported to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.

“The president was informed of the shooting at the US Navy Pensacola airbase ... He is monitoring the situation,” said Judd Deere, deputy spokeswoman for the White House.

We add that there is no exact information on the number of victims yet. At the Pensacola Baptist Hospital, eight casualties were reported after the shooting. At the same time, a representative of the U.S. Navy air base said six were wounded and killed, but noted that this number could increase with the advent of more accurate information.

Later, Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said a total of 11 people were killed - four of them were killed, including the shooter. Among the victims - two sheriff's assistants, one wounded in the arm, the other in the knee.

According to Jeff Bergosh, a member of the Escambia County administration and civil contractor at the Pensacola Navy airbase, the base was closed when his car was in line for entry. According to Bergosh, he received a call from colleagues who said they could not leave the base.

“Probably about a hundred cars of various services flashed along Nevi Boulevard in the direction opposite to the direction of travel,” the local Pensacola News Journal quoted Bergosh as saying.

According to information posted on the website of the naval base in Pensacola, it is the main training base for officers of the naval forces, marine corps and coast guard. About 16 thousand military men are deployed on it, about 7.4 thousand civilians are working on its territory.

This is the second case of shooting at a military facility in the United States this week. On December 4, at about 14:30 local time (December 5, 03:30 Moscow time), shooting was fired at the Pearl Harbor - Hickam naval base of the US Armed Forces, located in the state of Hawaii near Honolulu.

The sailor who served on the USS Columbia nuclear submarine opened fire on people near dry docks No. 2 and No. 3. According to media reports, he used service weapons, which he received while being on patrol, who was watching the progress of the repair of the submarine at the Navy shipyard.

“I sat at my desk, heard loud sharp sounds and somehow realized that these were shots. He looked out the window and saw three people on the ground. And while I looked out, the arrow was just visible. I decided that he was a sailor because he was wearing uniform, ”the Hawaii News Now online edition quotes an eyewitness to the tragedy.
