• Marches: Colombia is infected with the wave of protests in Chile and Ecuador

They are two different worlds and interests. On the one hand there are the social sectors that want to express their disagreements with the Government in a peaceful way, as they did on Thursday, and, in front, a violent extreme left determined to generate chaos.

When everyone thought that peace would return to Bogotá and the rest of the country, after a night of clashes between groups of hooded men and riot police, events that caused the concentration in the Simón Bolívar Square of the capital to be dissolved abruptly, reappeared vandalism and the main street cuts.

Since early Friday, groups of young people have placed themselves in strategic locations in the south of the city, the poorest area, and have blocked the passage of vehicles. He had already destroyed on Thursday night the facade of the town hall, 68 Transmilenio stations, the most important transportation system in Bogotá, rendering useless of them, as well as other places.

Also in Buenaventura and Cali, in the department of Norte del Valle, they have lived a day of terror. In the first, two people have been shot dead in one of the commercial looting of the port city. The same has happened in Candelaria, a border town with Cali, all of them confusing cases that the Prosecutor's Office is investigating.

In addition to these disorders, citizens have experienced for the first time an attempt to assault urbanizations by groups of young people, despite the declaration of a curfew and the presence in the streets of a thousand soldiers and five thousand police. The neighbors, at the direction of the police, have armed themselves with sticks and more than one has shot at the assailants.

The Secretary of Security of Cali, Andrés Villamizar, in addition to talking about the existence of "a social bomb", has assured EL MUNDO that social networks have raised fear, but that they have controlled the situation. However, the governor, Dilian Francisco Toro, contradicted him by stating that some assailants have managed to enter the houses.

According to the Minister of Defense, on Thursday 98 people were captured, 53 raids were carried out, 141 members of the public force were affected and injured, as were 122 civilians, these of a mild nature. He also reported that they initiated 11 preliminary inquiries in Bogotá, Cali and Cartagena before alleged excesses and irregularities of the public force.

The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, for his part, in an address to the country, said he had "listened" to the citizens, and this Friday he held a council of ministers, to analyze the situation and make concrete proposals.

Apart from the Vandals, also on Thursday night, when the city was empty and the riots ended, the pans began to sound in different neighborhoods, customary in Venezuela but not in Colombia, as a sign of peaceful protest against the Government. For tomorrow there are more casseroles.

Of the politicians, only Gustavo Petro kept calling the mobilizations. The populist leader of the extreme left already announced by losing the presidential elections that his struggle would continue in the streets.
