Initiatives to defeat terrorism are increasing. Burkina Faso is hosting, since Thursday, November 21, a meeting with participants from G5 Sahel member countries around the theme of cohesion between the different communities.

How to live together with our cultural, social and religious diversities? It is for the participants to propose ways to make social cohesion the main weapon against violent extremism and radicalization.

Between the inter-communal conflicts and the terrorist attacks, the G5 Sahel member countries are still looking for the best way to overcome all these phenomena. Coming from the different countries of the sub-region, participants in the Ouagadougou meeting are invited to make proposals to prevent intercultural tensions.

" These countries today have the same realities ," says Madiara Sagnon, Minister Delegate for Decentralization and Social Cohesion of Burkina Faso. The terrorist attacks that we record every day, violent extremism, radicalization, inter-communal conflict ... So at a certain moment, we had to stop, think together to see how to pool our efforts to try to reverse the trend. "

For Nana Aicha Cissé, coordinator of the G5 Sahel Women's Platform, we need comprehensive and sustainable responses against radicalization in the sub-region. " Our main concern today is to fight against radicalization, violent extremism in the G5 Sahel area and above all to strengthen social cohesion, which we believe can be a solution to overcome the scourge that overwhelms us. If we work on social cohesion, it can lead us to understand ourselves and go less towards violence. "

According to the head of the Burkinabè government, this meeting aims to explore all avenues likely to make social cohesion a principal vector of peace, tolerance and "living together".
