Steve Darcis and Andrey Rublev won on Monday in Madrid the first meetings of the new Davis Cup formula, allowing respectively Belgium to lead in front of Colombia and Russia in front of Croatia holding the trophy.
Darcis beat Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 6-2, while Rublev defeated Borna Gojo 6-3, 6-3.
Shortly after, Canada took the lead over Italy with a Vasek Pospisil victory over Fabio Fognini 7-6 (7/5), 7-5.
