At least two vehicles, a truck and a car, fell into the water when the bridge collapsed on Monday morning, according to the local rescue service for the news agency AFP.

One person has died in the crash. More than 60 rescue workers were called to the scene of the accident and an investigation has begun.

The suspension bridge that collapsed went over the River Tarn in southwestern France. It linked the two communities of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn and Bessieres, about three miles north of the city of Toulouse.

The bridge was about 150 meters long and five meters wide and is made of metal and concrete, writes Le Figaro French.
