November 14, 2019 "With today's CDM we will adopt the decree declaring a state of emergency for Venice: it was requested by the president of the region". Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said this at the end of the meeting in the Prefecture in Venice with the Transport Minister Paola De Micheli, the governor Luca Zaia and the mayor Luigi Brugnaro. "This will allow us - he explained - to already launch the first financial allocations regarding first aid expenses aimed at restoring the functionalities of the services".

On 26 November the Comitatone for the protection of the city
The inter-ministerial Comitatone for the protection of Venice will be convened on 26 November. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced this at the end of the meeting in the Prefecture in Venice where he arrived to see for himself the situation after canceling other commitments on the agenda. "We will also discuss - said the prime minister - governance for the structural problems of Venice, large ships, Moses, and greater coordination between the competent authorities. The government is present - he told reporters at the end of a long series of meetings, vertexes and site inspections -, we are here to give the sign of an effective participation of the government. Venice is a heritage of Italy and of humanity that needs to solve a series of historical problems that are dragging in. We continuously monitor the situation, we hope that there are no further emergencies tonight ".

On the controversy within the majority, the premier prefers not to reply: "We have so many commitments with the citizens, we are approving the financial maneuver. If one wants to be distracted by the controversy, go ahead, I will not".

Conte then published a photo on Twitter that depicts him with Walter Mutti, a Venetian newsagent who had expressed his despair on the social media for having lost the kiosk he managed, overwhelmed by the high water.

Walter Mutti has lost his newsstand, submerged by the rush of the waters. This morning I met him in the Prefecture in #Venezia: I listened to his words of pain, the same as many others that come to me from the Venetian citizens. The Government is sympathetic and present, no one will remain alone pic.twitter.com/mecHElPPU0

Complete the Mose
The Mose is "a controversial work. There is a political debate and there are controversies that have been dragging on for years. But we are in the final straight. We are at 93% of realization", says Prime Minister Conte in Venice about the Mose . "Many funds have been spent, with so much controversy behind them, and scandals. But if we evaluate the public interest and all the elements at stake, we have to make the decision to complete the course, which is now obliged". And then: "We will bring together the comitatone, we must not make fun of the citizens by saying that we will complete the Mose next year. The Mose will probably be completed in the spring of 2021". Conte then added that on the extraordinary commissioner for the Mose "the designation already exists, we are formalizing, it is ready".

De Micheli: Mose target ready in 2021
"There have been major slowdowns in the project, which today is 93% complete. The last 400 million are missing. They were stationed by the government, they are not stopped for bureaucratic reasons. There is nothing to stop, the works are going ahead". Thus stated Infrastructure Minister Paola De Micheli. The goal, he explained, is to complete it by 2021: "I hope, however, that there will be partial uses even before", he added.

The tide gave a brief respite in the night
In Venice tonight the tide gave a small respite. 115 centimeters were expected at around 11.30 pm, instead 95 came. Then they became 80, finally 73, 75, less than 70 centimeters, in short, less water than expected. The surveyors of Ispra, the higher institute for research and environmental protection, keep an eye on ten points of the lagoon: Punta della Salute, Lido Diga Sud, Grassabo ', Chioggia and Burano. Then Malamocco, Chioggia Sud, Murano, Petta 'di Bo', Torson di Sotto. Points become sadly famous in the last two days, in newspapers and websites around the world. Not everything is behind us, though, because if the maximum stopped below 80 centimeters yesterday evening, forecasts today speak of another significant peak, 125 centimeters on the mid-sea in late morning, with the possibility that the lower areas , like San Marco, are again flooded.

Mattarella's phone call
The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, phoned the Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, to inquire about the conditions of the city. A similar call from the Head of State to the mayor of Matera, Raffaele De Ruggeri. It is learned from sources in the Quirinale.

Costa: "We need strong political action against climate change"
"To combat climate change we need courageous and strong political and economic action". Environment Minister Sergio Costa said about the high water emergency in Venice. "And this is what this government is trying to do - he explained - with the climate decree, with the budget law and the connected environment".
