Kuwait's Public Works Minister Janan Ramadan Boushahri announced her resignation on Tuesday in a speech to the National Assembly to avoid a vote of confidence after a stormy questioning by a lawmaker.

"From this rostrum, I announce my resignation because unfortunately, companies and influential people are stronger than the right," Boushahri, who is also the minister of state for housing affairs, was quoted by KUNA as saying.

She said that today she stands with a "high head" in confronting the influential people, expressing her pride in every decision she has taken to preserve the right of the state.

The Minister stated: «I have preserved the Secretariat and cleared my sections and applied the provisions of the Constitution in the preservation of the interests of the State and its funds»

The move by the minister after the signing of 22 deputies to put confidence in the minister after a session of interrogation today by MP Omar Tabatabai.

MP Omar al-Tabtabaei said during the interrogation that the Minister of Works was lax in the application of the law to the contractors with the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, which caused heavy losses to the state.

He added that the minister hinders infrastructure projects and is one of the most important elements of Kuwait's transformation into a global financial and commercial center. She says that the documentary cycle is hindering the implementation of road works projects, but internal reports prove the opposite.
