The mayor of Montelimar Franck Reynier returns Tuesday, at the microphone of Europe 1, on the earthquake that occurred Monday in Drome and Ardeche, a magnitude of 5.4. For the city council, this "exceptional" and "unexpected" event contributed to creating a "very heavy situation" for the municipal team and the citizens.

INTERVIEW

"A traumatic day." This is how Franck Reynier summarizes on Tuesday morning at the microphone of Europe 1 the day of Monday, which saw an earthquake hit among other Montélimar, in the Drôme, city where he is mayor. A person was seriously injured in his commune, while the neighboring city of Teil was hit hard with 300 people invited not to return home because of cracks caused by this earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 . The balance is four wounded.

In the inhabitants, "a lot of surprise"

"We had a traumatic day because it is something exceptional, unexpected," says Franck Reynier in the morning of Matthew Belliard. "We are not in an area with proven seismicity, there has been a lot of surprise on the part of the locals and concerns, including a possible aftershock."

After an earthquake, the role of a municipal team is dual, explains the mayor. It was first "the opportunity to make many diagnoses of public buildings and to intervene in private", with the presence of emergency services. But it is also to "give information" to citizens, because "a lot of information circulated" Monday, creating in fact "a very heavy situation," says Franck Reynier.
