Emmanuel Macron has embarked on a three-day trip to China, during which he intends to defend French entrepreneurs for a greater opening of the Chinese market. This is the priority of this visit, which began in Shanghai.

This visit was to begin with a grand gala dinner in Shanghai. President Xi Jinping intended to honor his guests Serbian, Greek, Jamaican and of course the French President Emmanuel Macon , who will participate Tuesday at the Import Fair, gigantic international event, dedicated to trade and which France is this year the guest of honor. 'honor.

First dinner, then, and probably the opportunity for the French president to set foot in the dish, to advocate with his Chinese counterpart the need for greater opening of the Chinese market to French companies, observes our special envoy to Shanghai, Véronique Rigolet . This is the priority of President Macron, who intends to take the word President Xi Jinping , when he says he wants to make this fair a symbol of openness.

A " short but dense " visit

" Chick! ", We hear in the entourage of Emmanuel Macron. The French president is on the offensive, especially to support the French food industry. Tuesday, during the visit of the French pavilion at the fair, he intends well to have Aubrac beef served to his Chinese counterpart, all washed down with a good glass of red wine, told RFI the entourage of the head of state.

During this fair, Emmanuel Macron will make a speech just behind that of the Chinese president. This is important for the regime because the event was shunned by some Westerners last year. This presence of the French head of state at the fair would be the image of the good agreement between Beijing and Paris. The visit promises to be " short but dense ", as the Chinese diplomats say.

The protocol promises a welcome at least at the height of Nice and Beaulieu-sur-mer last year, during the visit of Xi Jinping in France. The two heads of state and their wives will meet Tuesday night in a place described as " very special ", " very Shanghai " for a dinner in a small circle, reports our correspondent in Beijing, Stephane Lagarde .

40 agreements at stake

Paris, which intends to register its relationship with China in a European dimension, arrives accompanied by the Germans and Europe here in Shanghai. The German Minister of Education and the European Commissioner for Agriculture will participate in a meeting between the French and German economic players present at the fair.

Xi Jinping is due to visit Germany next year while two agreements are being discussed with Europe, one on investment protection and the other on geographical indications that would protect wines and cheeses French in particular.

One of the themes on which Paris and Beijing particularly share their agenda, and one of the priorities of this second visit of the French President to China: the fight against global warming and the preservation of biodiversity, again on the menu of discussions between Emmanuel Macron and Chinese officials. It is also an important commercial issue for European and French companies present on the Chinese market, with challenges to the size of a country-continent.

Still margin commercially

Other trade agreements could also be signed in China. During his visit to Paris a few days ago, the Chinese Foreign Minister spoke about forty agreements in aeronautics, satellites, finance or sustainable energy. According to the Chinese authorities, imports of French products would grow faster than Chinese exports in recent months.

There is still room for Paris to fill its deficit with China, but the fair here is an opportunity for France to exhibit its products and know-how, say the Chinese, who intend on their side to demonstrate that growth in the world's second-largest economy is no longer driven solely by exports, but also by consumption.
