The Cuban president is touring Europe. Miguel Díaz-Canel will visit Moscow on October 29 to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev. A visit that confirms Russia's increased cooperation with Cuba, the two historic allies and today more than ever "strategic allies".

One year after his first visit to Moscow, as soon as he took office, Miguel Díaz-Canel met Vladimir Putin again. In recent months bilateral meetings have multiplied, nearly 30 years after the departure of the Soviets from the Caribbean island.

Strategic cooperation has recently been established or reaffirmed: in the fields of science, civil nuclear energy, cybersecurity and customs.

The Russians will also allocate one billion to the reconstruction of the Cuban railway lines, and 40 million dollars are planned for the modernization of the island's military industry.

" Cuba can always count on the support of Russia, " said Prime Minister Dimitri Medvev a month ago in Havana.

And it's no secret that Cubans need their historic ally, with the crisis facing their Venezuelan partner and as the island faces increased US sanctions , which have recently caused fuel shortages and affect the tourism sector and the Cuban economy.

As US pressure grows, Cuba gets closer to the Russian big brother and Moscow puts its pawns 150 km off the US coast.
