Six teachers were kidnapped on Friday (October 25th) by suspected jihadists in the Mopti region.

Composed of a first and second cycle, Korientzé school group, located 150 km north of Mopti, provides courses in French.

The attackers arrived in the locality with motorcycles. These alleged jihadists, Malians and foreigners according to our information, are all armed. Rather well informed, they head for their arrival to two classrooms. Students are forced to go out.

At first, two teachers were arrested, then a third, five in total on the spot and a sixth in the neighboring town of N'Gorodia. Before leaving, the alleged jihadists set fire to the school equipment, and threatened: no more question of accepting on the spot an education dispensed in French language.

In a statement, the Malian Minister of Communication and spokesman for the government, denounces " obscurantist attacks as cowardly as barbaric ". Minister Yaya Sangare adds that actions are underway to secure the release of the kidnapped teachers.
