It is the European Commission's Innovation and Networking Agency, INEA, that distributes the money in a lottery system after the resorts have submitted an application, writes Dagens Nyheter. This week it became clear which places will receive the grant. Of fifteen Swedish locations, Hallsberg and Degerfors are two, who receive SEK 150,000.

Used at events

Both Hallsberg and Degerfors municipality have been included in previous applications for the grant, but never received it.

- It's a big advantage at big events. It feels fun to have the opportunity to make it attractive to visitors, says Marianne Kristiansson, community building manager in Hallsberg Municipality.

Selected wifi areas

With the money, the municipality will first and foremost install free wifi connection at the sports facilities in Hallsberg. Then there may be more places.

- We haven't been able to look at how many places we can have it on or collect the check yet. But where there is a lot of throughput on people anyway, says Marianne Kristiansson.

"Especially for tourism"

In Degerfors you have already developed several places where you want to install wifi. The train station, the Kulturcentrum Berget, Degernäs Camping and the sports halls around Stora Valla are some of the places.

- It should be where people move and especially for tourism. Feels super good that we get money that comes to the public good. Then of course we get to see how far the money is, says Pär Wunder, broadband coordinator in Degerfors municipality.

A total of EUR 26.5 million is distributed to 1,780 locations in Europe.
