By 18 o'clock on Thursday, the six-hour inspection of the ship Rix Emerald had just ended in Kalmar.

- We have found 23 serious deficiencies. Among other things, the emergency generator does not start, life saving is substandard and agreement with the crew is not okay, says Pekka Piirainen, an official in readiness for Shipping in Sweden to SVT Nyheter Väst. Something that P4 West was the first to report on.

The vessel now has a ban on use, which means that it may not leave Kalmar indefinitely.

Serious damage in boat traffic

- They must not leave until all 23 deficiencies have been rectified. If you do not have good things, you can go on the ground and meet another boat and get a breakdown, it can go bad. It is up to the shipping company in Latvia to remedy this.

What reactions have you received from the vessel management?

- We haven't received so many reactions yet. But the crew, who are probably from Latvia, did not get so happy at first.

According to the Swedish Transport Agency, these shortcomings can lead to serious damage in boat traffic.

- This ship should not be out at sea with such serious security shortcomings. Of course, this is potentially dangerous, ”says Mikael Andersson, press director at the Swedish Transport Agency.
