October 23, 2019The Ukrainian presidential couple participated in the coronation ceremony of the Japanese emperor Naruhito. Olena Zelenskaya, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, posted a photo of the ceremony on Instagram. The image of the Ukrainian first lady sparked an avalanche of criticism. The woman was accused of lack of respect for the Japanese imperial house and the emperor in the first person.

In Japan there is a series of forbidden colors, which can only be used for the clothes of the monarch. One of these is the dark orange color of the emperor's ceremonial robes during the coronation.

Among the other colors there is the yellow of different shades because it is considered to belong to the imperial family. On the banner of the Japanese imperial family a chrysanthemum is drawn with 16 yellow-colored petals against a dark orange background.

Olena Zelenskaya at the ceremony wore a lemon yellow dress and gloves of the same color.
