The prodigy of American tennis Coco Gauff continued his rise by winning at the age of 15 his first WTA title, with, for his first final, Latvian Jelena Ostrapenko (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) Sunday in Linz.
The American, who was revealed to the general public in July by eliminating her compatriot and idol Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon, became the youngest 9th player ever to win a WTA tournament.
We must go back to 2004, with the title of the Czech Nicole Vaidisova in Vancouver, to find an earlier winner on the WTA tablets.
"I will remember this day the rest of my life," responded the player after his victory in the final, after a week started as "lucky looser" after failing in qualifying.
Easy winner of the first set, the American experienced in the second a sudden drop in the speed of one of his main weapons, the service, before recovering and sending the decisive round where it inflicted a 5-0 to his Latvian opponent, 72nd player in the world.
Gauff is expected to leave 110th place in the WTA World Ranking to rank 71st. She is expected next week at the Luxembourg tournament.
