After the announcement of the partial US withdrawal from northern Syria, Russian diplomacy denounces a " dangerous game " and is worried about the consequences. US policy in Syria is likely to set the region ablaze, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke on the return of a brief two-day visit to Iraq. For him, the policy conducted in Syria by the United States is both unpredictable and harmful and the surprise announcement October 6 of the American withdrawal is a new illustration.

" It's a very dangerous game and I was convinced once again during my visit to Iraq ," he said. We spoke with Iraqi Kurds and they are worried that this light treatment of such a sensitive subject could ignite the entire region, which must be avoided at all costs. "

" Inconsistent and contradictory " policy

" We are trying to make ourselves heard by the Americans ," Sergei Lavrov continued. But in practice, we do not yet see any real changes in their policy, which is inconsistent and contradictory. "

Russia is very cautious about developments in northern Syria. The US withdrawal could increase its influence and prestige in the region.

But a major conflict between Turkey and the Kurds in Syria would be very bad news for Moscow, which is seeking a political solution in Syria. It needs stability, not a new war.

The Kurds of Syria, they fear an " imminent " Turkish military operation, says Issa Khaled, their representative in France.

If the international community does not react, there will be an invasion in the coming days.
