As the department reminded, from 2021 the new regulation of the Eurasian Economic Union on the safety of alcoholic beverages will come into force, and its provisions will be binding on Russia.

According to these standards, the production of craft beer is not provided, which means that the activities of the companies that will be engaged in its production will be suspended from January 1, 2021, according to Rosstandart.

In addition, according to the EAEU regulation, starting from 2021, only a beverage containing 80% malt, less than 20% unmalted raw materials and less than 2% sugar-containing products will be considered beer.

According to current GOSTs, Russia provides for the production of wheat, light and dark beer, however, as specified in Rosstandart, the introduction of a single standard for the manufacture of craft beer is not planned.

“Given the different approaches to the manufacture of craft beer, a common GOST cannot be developed for this product, as the products have different technologies and different recipes, as well as different ingredients and components, different tastes and different colors,” the department said.

Since the production of craft beer is not legalized by any documents, some varieties of this drink can be attributed to counterfeit, according to Rosstandart.

Craft beer is a craft beer that is produced by private companies (breweries) according to their own recipes.

Previously published research results showed that beer has become the most popular alcoholic beverage in Russia.
