Popova filed a lawsuit in the Savyolovsky District Court demanding that the introduction of a video recognition system be declared unlawful. In her opinion, the processing of images of citizens' faces without their written consent violates the law on personal data and the right to privacy.

In January, it became known that in 2019, CCTV cameras on the streets of the capital will be equipped with a face recognition system.

In August, it was reported that major Russian airports are testing face recognition algorithms, and by the end of the year the results of pilot projects will be known.
