The Kremlin appreciated Lukashenko’s idea of Belarusian peacekeepers in Donbass

Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on a statement by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko about Minsk’s readiness to bring peacekeepers to the Donbass and take control of a section of the Ukrainian-Russian border if the parties agree.

“This is a new proposal. Of course, first of all, you need to understand the attitude of the parties to the conflict to such a proposal. And the participants in the conflict in this case are, on the one hand, Kiev, and on the other hand, the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass. While we do not know their relationship, ”RIA Novosti quotes Peskov.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Kiev is considering the introduction of a peacekeeping mission in the Donbass as one of the steps if it is not possible to achieve progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said he was cautious about the UN peacekeepers in the Donbass and believes that they can only be deployed on the Ukrainian-Russian state border.
