On Thursday, the National Agency for Education presented the final grades for the compulsory school for the academic year 2018/2019. The result for the entire county is a deterioration compared to the academic year 2017/2018. At that time, 71.5 per cent of the Sörmland pupils passed the nine knowledge requirements in all subjects, but during the academic year 2018/2019 the figure was 68.3 per cent. The entire state is 75.5 percent.

Increase despite bottom marks

Vingåker gets a bottom placement in the county, but here the proportion of ninth graders who reach the knowledge requirements has increased the most.

- Of course, it's fun to hear it. We have had some problems in the past, but now we are on the right track, says Anders Danielsson, education manager at Vingåker.

At the same time, Vingåker is the municipality in Sörmland that has the least proportion of qualified teachers, according to figures from the National Agency for Education compiled by the Teachers' Association earlier this year.

- There is nothing to say that an unauthorized teacher is bad, says Anders Danielsson.

With the help of targeted efforts through the initiative Collaboration for the best school, the National Agency for Education has stepped in to help in the municipality. The education manager also believes that more talk about grades now than before.

- The teacher job is not a solitary job, there are more teachers who pass national exams, for example, and then you can check answers and assessments with each other.

In Nyköping, the proportion of pupils in grade 9 who meet the knowledge requirements in all subjects has also increased.

Worse rating results

But in Eskilstuna, Katrineholm, Flen, Gnesta, Strängnäs and Trosa the proportion has decreased.

The municipality in the county where the proportion has decreased most is Oxelösund. Here, 55 percent of the ninth grades met the knowledge requirements in all subjects during the last academic year. However, unlike Vingåker, there is the highest proportion of qualified teachers in the county.

With regard to the proportion of ninth graders who qualify for vocational programs at the upper secondary school, it has decreased throughout Sörmland by just over two percentage points in the last academic year. The figure now stands at just under 80 percent.
