Al-Jazeera Net learned that the coalition of forces of freedom and change in Sudan nominated a judge to take the post of head of the judiciary, and a former judge for the post of Attorney General after a legal mistake on the provisions of the constitutional document relating to the appointment in the two positions.

A leader of the coalition said that the forces of change raised their nominations for the two positions of the Council of Sovereignty, where Nemat Abdullah Khair was chosen as the head of the judiciary, as well as the selection of a former judge for the post of Attorney General.

The name has emerged as a candidate for the post of Chief Justice after differences between the military council and the forces of freedom and change led to the exclusion of the forces of change for both Abdul Qadir Mohammed Ahmed for the post of Chief Justice and Mohammed Hafiz Mahmoud for the post of Attorney General.

According to the leader, who preferred to withhold his name, Abdul Qadir Mohammed Ahmed and Mohammed al-Hafiz were completely excluded from the nominations after the controversy over their candidacy, and refused to disclose the coalition candidate for the post of Attorney General for the sensitivity of the job, while leaks pointed to the nomination of Judge Taj al-Sir Ali al-Habr.

According to the leader of the Freedom and Change Forces, the latter used its legal and technical committee and gathered the Democratic Lawyers and Judges Club to select suitable nominations for the posts "to meet the goals of the revolution and criminal justice."

He said that the Alliance relied in its nominations on the recent advisory opinion of the Minister of Justice, which granted the Council of Sovereignty the right to appoint the Chief Justice and Attorney General after amendments to the constitutional document on the method of appointment.

He explained that the Minister of Justice considered that the document initialed was open to both parties for deletion and addition, which makes the document signed on August 17 last August is approved, as long as the constitutional document is not published in the Official Gazette.

Document texts
The initialed document stipulated the appointment of the Chief Justice by his choice through the Supreme Judicial Council, and the appointment of the Attorney General by his nomination by the Public Prosecution Council.

The leader expected to nominate the head of the judiciary and the Attorney General within days after a meeting of the Council of Sovereignty, explaining that the civilian component of the Council was part of the consultations on the selection of candidates, and remains to inform the military component of the nominations.

The forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change have organized protests, one of which arrived at the Presidential Palace in Khartoum, requesting the speedy appointment of the Chief Justice and Attorney General to initiate investigations on the crimes and violations that accompanied the breaking up of the sit-in and protests.
