On 3-4 October, Umeå and Västerbotten will host the EU Arctic Forum, an event where EU ministers gather to tackle the future of the Arctic climate.

Previously, the event was organized in Brussels, but in recent years it travels around to the dunes as in the Arctic.

"Västerbotten is a part of the Arctic, although we may not really recognize it as part of our natural identity," says Jörgen Boman, communicator at the county council in Västerbotten.

Must conduct a dialogue on the Arctic environment

Of the 38 invited foreign ministers in the EU, 12 are expected to attend.

- These, together with Sweden's Foreign Minister Ann Linde, will conduct a dialogue about the Arctic environment, how it can be developed and what challenges it faces, says Boman.

In connection with the meeting, Sweden will also hand over the Presidency of the Barents Council to Norway, which will take over. The Barents Council's Foreign Minister's meeting will take place on October 3.

The event is co-organized by Sweden and the EU and will take place at Umeå University.
