“We are writing to express our strong disagreement with the return of President Putin and the Russian Federation to the Group of Seven. G7 serves as the economic council of democracies, designed to promote the global economy in accordance with international law and common values, ”the text of the document says.

As indicated, Russia “has neither democratic institutions nor economic potential” to return to the G7.

Chuck Schumer, Senior Democrat at the Foreign Affairs Committee Robert Menendez, Senior Democrat at the Armed Forces Committee Jack Reed, and Senior Democrat at the Intelligence Committee Marc Warner, signed the letter.

Earlier, trump at a press conference said that he would invite Putin to the next G7 meeting, which will be held in the United States.

The Kremlin noted that in practical terms, Putin’s possible visit to the United States at the invitation of Trump has not yet been discussed.

They also emphasized that “a visit for a visit, contact for a contact, a summit for a summit is not what Putin is usually used to doing.”

In February, US senators, including Robert Menendez, proposed the creation of a single “national center for responding to hybrid threats” from Russia.
