"Elder told us that he was afraid of being strangled, of being the subject of an attack by Cerciello that night, he didn't know he was a carabiniere." Lawyers Roberto Capra and Renato Borzone, lawyers for Finnegan Lee Elder, the American boy confessed to the murder of deputy brigadier Mario Cerciello Rega, report this. Elder did not reiterate the confession to the magistrate.

Meanwhile, the family of the young American made it known from San Francisco, through their lawyer, that he hoped "the truth would come out and our son would soon return home".

"We have the impression that public opinion has had an incomplete account of the truth of the events," lawyer Craig Peters read in front of the Elder house in San Francisco.

Peters read a brief statement in front of the home of Finnegan Elder's parents in San Francisco in which the family also expresses its condolences for the military's death. Elder's own parents attended the reading of the note, after which the lawyer did not accept questions. "We continue to have this family in our thoughts and pray for them in this difficult time," he added illegally. The statement was issued after Elder's father, Ethan, visited Rome, where he visited his 19-year-old son in prison.
