Hundreds of people took part in protests in Germany on the sidelines of a ceremony by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macaron yesterday, with the signing of a new treaty of friendship between Germany and France on the 56th anniversary of the signing of the Elysee Treaty in Paris.

According to the German police, the local authorities agreed to four demonstrations, including a demonstration of up to 120 people supporters of the movement of yellow jackets in France and the other about 200 people from the «Pulse Europe» pro-Europe, both are still continuing in the German city of Aachen, which was signed Treaty of Friendship between the two countries yesterday.

Merkel reiterated France and Germany's intention to push for a future "European army", despite the fierce opposition of US President Donald Trump.

Merkel said the new French-German cooperation treaty signed with French President Emmanuel Macaron in Aachen, Germany, which provides for a rapprochement between the two countries in the field of defense, is "a contribution to the creation of a European army."

She pointed to the development of a "military culture and a joint weapons industry" as stipulated in the treaty supplementing the Treaty of Elysee signed in 1963 between the two countries.

The treaty, which declares that the two countries will reach a "new level, with the challenges facing both countries and Europe in the 21st century", met with opposition in France.

French right-wing leaders, including Marin-le-Ban, are based on conspiracy theories that Macaron is preparing to give up control of the Alsace region of eastern France and is ready to share his country's permanent seat on the UN Security Council with Germany.
