The book "Philosophy of Enlightenment" by German philosopher Ernest Casserer was awarded Wednesday at the fourth edition of the Sheikh Hamad Prize for Translation and International Understanding.
The book was translated by Ibrahim Abu Hashhash and published in Arabic by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.
The award is global, supervised by a Board of Trustees, Steering Committee and independent judging committees. It aims at honoring translators and appreciating their role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation among the nations and peoples of the world, rewarding excellence, encouraging creativity, and promoting high values.
The inauguration of the Sheikh Hamad Prize for International Translation and Understanding since 2015 marked a quantum leap towards globalization by providing translation services to and from Arab countries, as it harnessed its moral and material efforts in recognition of the role of translation in building bridges of human communication, surpassing the world's conflicts and divisions. Human thought in a common language belongs to reason and consciousness.
The award was launched in many language lanes each year, adopting a universal language each year alongside English.
The total prize value is $ 2 million, divided into three categories, translation awards ($ 800,000), completion awards ($ 1 million) and the International Understanding Award ($ 200,000).
The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies has published the book "Philosophy of Enlightenment" within the series "Tarjuman " prepared by the book translation unit at the Center.
This award is the second to be won by the books of the Arab Center after winning a book "The Time of Dissatisfaction: The Pathology of International Relations" by French author Bertrand Badi, translated from French to Arabic by Jean Majid Jabbour at the third session of the Sheikh Hamad Prize for International Translation and Understanding.
