One person was killed and 14 others injured yesterday when a car bomb exploded in the Syrian city of Latakia.

"The terrorist bombing killed one civilian and wounded 14 others," the official SANA news agency quoted Lattakia health director as saying.

The agency had earlier reported the killing of the driver and wounding four others in the bombing, noting that it occurred in the courtyard of the bathroom on the outskirts of Latakia.

The agency added that «the competent authorities have dismantled a second explosive device before detonating in the same place».

The director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdul Rahman, told «AFP» that an explosive device was placed in the car or near it.

The agency published pictures showing the car burning and surrounded by firefighters.

Syrian television also showed pictures of the location of the explosion, which showed a large crowd of people and elements of the army around him.

In the center, the pictures showed a small, crumbling white bus.
