In South Africa, police announced on Friday (November 23rd) that a shooting in a mosque near Cape Town killed and wounded one. The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 20th in the evening, but it was made public several days. For now, the reasons for the attack are unknown, but this is not the first time a mosque has been targeted in South Africa.
A 30-year-old man was killed and a wounded imam attacked a mosque in Khayelitsha township. The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 20, when four men were reported to have opened fire at the time of prayer. No arrest has yet taken place, and the religious authorities are talking about settling accounts for the time being.
This is not the first time a mosque is targeted in South Africa, far from it. In June, two men were stabbed in another mosque near Cape Town . The suspect, a young Somali, was mentally ill, police said.
Two months earlier, the Verulam mosque near Durban had been the target of another knife attack . This time, the Imam was killed, and the building partially burned. 19 suspects are currently on trial in this case , charged with placing small explosive devices through the city of Durban and launching several false bomb threats. Among others, they are accused of terrorist activity.
