A recent study prepared by the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior recommended that the legislative structure be set up in the state to allow the testing, registration and operation of self-driving vehicles and the necessary amendments to the Federal Traffic Law to accommodate this generation of vehicles and procedures for obtaining its own driver's license.

The study, entitled "Know the public opinion in the UAE about self-driving vehicles", was presented yesterday at the International Symposium on Traffic Safety in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of HH Sheikh Thiab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, % Of UAE society supports the use of self-driving vehicles.

Officials and experts participating in the symposium organized by the Emirates Traffic Safety Association, in cooperation with the Department of Transport, the Traffic Safety Committee, the International Organization for the Prevention of Road Accidents and the Arab Organization for Traffic Safety, entitled "Road Engineering and Traffic Safety" Million and 240 thousand people, and the injury of 50 million injuries and disabilities annually.

According to a working paper submitted by the Deputy Director General of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of the Interior, Colonel Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Kaabi and Captain Amna Al Saadi of the Ministry of Interior, 60% of the respondents supported the use of self-driving vehicles in the country.

The study recommended the development of a national strategy to educate and educate the public on the technology of self-driving vehicles and its mechanism of action in order to receive this generation of vehicles, as a high proportion of the public is concerned about riding self-driving vehicles.

The Dubai Smart Mobility Strategy aims to transform 25% of Dubai's mobility into a self-driving vehicle by 2030, with revenues estimated at AED 22 billion annually.

The study recommended that the transition to self-driving vehicles be carried out in stages, starting in certain places and limited in the first place, so that the public will become familiar with them, gain confidence in them and then circulate them to different means of transport.

The Secretary General of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior, Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Koman, that the disadvantages of the road play a role in traffic accidents, pointing out that the statistics of traffic accidents in the Arab countries indicate that the second reason in traffic accidents after human errors related to the defects of the road.

Road engineering contributes to the solution of traffic congestion and is the major modern dilemma facing all the cities of the world, and leaves serious consequences, both at the environmental and health levels and at the economic and social levels.

For his part, the head of the International Organization for the Prevention of Road Accidents at the Belljoul Palace, said that the organization is working hard to encourage governments and various concerned parties to provide a safe passage system that will impose on the various categories of road users the safe behavior we aspire to.

Enhance traffic safety

"Roads and traffic safety are two complementary steps," said Ibrahim Sarhan Al Hamoudi, Acting Executive Director of the Department of Transport at Abu Dhabi Department of Transport. "There is no guarantee to enhance the traffic safety of the community without the advanced legislative infrastructure and methods designed to the highest engineering standards.
