The big national Central African dialogue opens this Thursday in Khartoum, Sudan, between the armed groups and the government, under the aegis of the African Union. It took more than a year and a half to successfully bring the different parties together around the table. A step forward, but the difficulties to overcome during this dialogue remain numerous.

The purpose of this dialogue is to obtain a peace agreement with implementation and monitoring processes. While some participants already engaged in disarmament programs are showing goodwill, others are more cautious. The participation of Nourredine Adam of the FPRC and Ali Darass of the UPC was not confirmed Wednesday night. The climate of suspicion is still very important ...

The room for maneuver for negotiations is limited for the authorities. Today, armed groups are in a position of strength: they hold nearly 80% of the territory and are well armed. A recent report by The Sentry revealed the wealth accumulated by Abdoulaye Hissene through the conflict. What interest for them to negotiate?

Finally, among the hundreds of compiled demands of armed groups, the most important concern the amnesty or the empowerment of the regions of the Central African Republic. Conditions difficult to accept without trampling on the conclusions of the popular consultations of the Bangui Forum of 2015.
