“We welcome the introduction by the EU of the first sanctions as part of its new regime of introducing restrictive measures for chemical weapons and demonstrate a strong unity in the understanding that the use of chemical weapons is unacceptable,” wrote Pompeo on Twitter.

On January 21, it was reported that the EU Council imposed the first sanctions under the new regime of restrictive measures against the use and proliferation of chemical weapons.

The list includes nine individuals and one organization. In particular, the sanctions imposed on two employees of the GRU, as well as the head and deputy head of the GRU.
