"President Trump will sign tomorrow in the presence of Prime Minister (Israeli Benjamin) Netanyahu an order recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan," wrote the head of Israeli diplomacy.
Donald Trump said Thursday in a tweet that it was time "for the United States to fully recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of strategic importance to the State of Israel and regional stability," breaking thus with the international consensus and decades of American diplomacy in the Middle East.

Israel conquered much of the Syrian Golan (1,200 km2) during the Six Day War in 1967 and annexed it in 1981. This annexation has never been recognized by the international community. The US president had already broken with the international consensus by unilaterally recognizing in December 2017 Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
