In the wake of Theresa May's meeting with Labor opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn in an attempt to lift the Brexit from deadlock, the German Chancellor was visiting Dublin on Thursday (April 4th). A passage perceived as a mark of support from Europe to Ireland still concerned by the possible return of a physical border with British Northern Ireland.

It is a message of solidarity that came to deliver Angela Merkel in Ireland. " We want to act together at 27, " said the German Chancellor after meeting with the Irish Prime Minister.

Leo Varadkar thanked her for " her friendship and support " at this crucial Brexit moment when the issue of the border is far from settled. On the subject, the two leaders speak with the same voice: there is a way to prevent a return to this border, they say, it requires that London vote in favor of the divorce treaty that still does not collect majority in Westminster currently.

Angela Merkel and Leo Varadkar say they are closely following the latest developments in the British Parliament . They believe that optimism is permissible and they are also in favor of a possible extension of the deadline for the United Kingdom to leave the EU on 12 April.

But that requires Theresa May to present a credible plan that justifies this extension. However the German Chancellor reiterated that Germany and Ireland would do everything to avoid a harsh Brexit.
