A French source reported that Paris has been informed of the presence of about 150 children of French armed men in Syria, and will begin procedures to return some of them to France.

They have been reported by families in France or in areas under the control of the Kurds since the defeat of the terrorist organization in 2017.

The French source, who declined to be identified, said only part of them had been identified and where they were located in the Kurdish areas, paving the way for their return.

The source, who did not provide figures, said the children, the majority of whom are under the age of six, will only be able to leave with the consent of their mothers who will remain in Syria.

France excludes any operations of adults, fighters or wives who are considered activists in the Daqash organization, despite the demand of family lawyers in France.

"Those who committed crimes or crimes in Iraq and Syria should be tried in Iraq and Syria," French Foreign Ministry sources said.

The source added that «the exception is for minors only who will be examined situation by case. We have a duty to safeguard the child's best interests. "

But the process of returning them seems very complicated, because the areas under the control of Kurdish self-management in Syria do not have the status of a recognized state before the international community. Paris has also frozen diplomatic relations with Damascus since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011.

Sources in Paris admit that "a lesson has been started on how things can be done. It's a very complicated issue."

In total, about 40 families, mothers and children, were reported in Syria.

The same source added that dozens of "French-speaking" fighters were apparently being held by Syrian Kurdish forces, but did not say whether they were French.

In Iraq, only three families of French armed men were counted. One of the mothers working for the Da'ash organization, French Melina Bogdir, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, has agreed to deport three of her children.

More than 300 French militants, estimated at 680 in Iraq and Syria, have been killed, while a small number have left for other countries (Afghanistan, Libya or the Maghreb), as Paris estimates, and some are still in place.

The French sources themselves said that «some of these are in the stronghold of the organization (da'ash) on the Syrian-Iraqi border, where there are still battles so far. There are 100 of them in Idlib, the last bastion of the opposition and armed factions in Syria.

The Syrian Kurdish units confirm that they are holding more than 900 foreign fighters from the "Daash" organization from 44 countries, which constitutes a real security and judicial challenge.

In return, they call on the countries from which they come back, but the insurgents appear hesitant because of the hostile attitude towards them by public opinion.

France, which has participated in the operations against the organization «Daqash» denies, for its part, that it has entered into an agreement with the Kurds to retain their nationals, as reported by the newspaper «Le Monde» French.

"No agreement has been reached, but the Kurds know our position. They realize that we do not want to go back. "
