She did not return from her last tour: a female hiker known from bikini photos on mountain tops has been fatally injured in Taiwan. Gigi Wu crashed into a gorge in Yushan National Park on Saturday, rescue workers said.

Wu had badly injured friends via a satellite phone. The forces arrived but because of the bad weather not fast enough to the 36-year-olds. The woman's body was discovered on Monday.

Wu fell about 20 to 30 meters into the depth, said a representative of the rescue workers. She told friends on the phone that she could not move her lower body. But she gave her coordinates.

Due to bad weather, helicopters could not fly to the crash site. A rescue team took 28 hours to walk to the injured wanderer - any help came too late.

Hundred summits in four years

The Taiwanese woman became known on social networks through her bikini selfies on mountain tops. The 36-year-old climbed the summits in her hiking clothes and then changed. In 2018 she told the Taiwanese broadcaster FTV that she had climbed more than a hundred peaks in four years. "I put on a bikini on each of the hundred mountains," she said.

There are a number of mountains more than 3000 meters high in Taiwan. In winter, temperatures regularly fall well below zero degrees Celsius.
