The fire brigade has rescued six people from a burning hotel room in Berlin's Friedrichshain district. Two hotel guests suffered flue gas poisoning and were taken to a hospital, as a fire spokeswoman said.

Since hotel guests from a total of 115 rooms had to be brought to safety, the fire brigade was reportedly with almost one hundred task forces on site. Two hours after the alarm, the fire was largely extinguished.

The spokeswoman assumed in the early morning that large parts of the hotel would be accessible soon. How the room on the fifth floor could catch fire is unclear. According to the fire department, furnishings were burning in the room.
