Before Xiang Xiang, a giant panda born at Tokyo's Ueno Zoo and returned to China last year, celebrated his 7th birthday, an event was held at the Chinese Embassy to share his current status. They seemed to be getting used to the local environment and appeared to be doing well and eating their favorite bamboo shoots.

Xiang Xiang, a female giant panda born at Ueno Zoo, was returned to China in February last year based on an agreement with China and is now living at the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center in Sichuan Province.

Ahead of his 7th birthday in June, an event was held at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo on the 9th to publicize his recent status online.

At the outset, Ambassador Wu Jianghao gave a speech, saying, ``I'm so grateful to see so many people here and feel their deep love for Xiang Xiang.I hope that through pandas, we will support the development of Japan-China relations.''

The animal was then connected to the Conservation Research Center and a lively video of Xiang Xiang sitting on the ground eating his favorite bamboo shoots was shown.

Xiang Xiang grew up listening to Japanese at Ueno Zoo, but the local zookeeper said, "After three months in China, Xiang Xiang started responding to Chinese. Although he is still a shy person, I love sleeping and I think I've gotten used to the Chinese environment.''

Director Yutaka Fukuda of Ueno Zoo, who participated, said, ``Although I feel lonely after returning to China, I'm relieved to see that he's gotten a little bigger, has a nice coat, and seems to be doing well.I hope he will continue to take care of his health. "It is," he said.
