By cause/motive of suicide, 12,403 cases were attributed to "health problems" such as illness, a decrease of 371 cases compared to the previous year, while "economic/lifestyle factors" such as poor living or poor business The number of "problems" increased by 484 to 5,181, which is a significant increase.



By age group, those in their 50s had the largest number of cases, increasing by 101 to 4,194, followed by those in their 40s with 3,625 and those in their 70s with 2,901.



In addition, there were 13 elementary school students, 153 junior high school students, and 347 high school students, for a total of 513 children.



The number of suicides among children and students has decreased by one from 514 the year before, which was the highest since 1981, when statistics are available, but it remains at a high level.



The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said, ``As the number of suicides among children and students continues to be at the same level as in the previous year, which was the highest on record, the situation continues to be critical, so we would like to work with related ministries and agencies to strengthen countermeasures.''
