A state of shock and anger prevailed on social media after a video clip was circulated showing nurses at the Lebanese Al-Makassed Charitable Hospital terrorizing patients with strange sounds.

The video spread widely, prompting the Nursing Syndicate to issue a statement in which it said it had referred the nurses to the disciplinary board “in order to hold them accountable in accordance with the rules and to preserve the image of the profession, and to reject everything that affects patients and society.”

Amid the overwhelming dissatisfaction, the Lebanese Nursing Syndicate issued a statement commenting on the incident, in which it said, “The Syndicate decided to refer the nurses before the Disciplinary Council to hold them accountable according to the rules, to preserve the image of the profession, and to reject everything that affects patients and society.”

The comments on social media were harsh, and described the nurses as having a lack of morals, bullying, and dealing condescendingly with the elderly.

Agin wrote, “Nurses without morals and without mercy... and this behavior and method is disgusting, bullying, and condescending to elderly patients. It is not forbidden for you to bully and force yourself in this way?! How are (how are) the people (people)?! What (how much) is it? Is it easy to break hearts?

As for Maryam, who works as a nurse, she expressed her feeling ashamed of this behavior, saying, “I am a nurse and I put my face on the ground behind what happened (of what happened)... Not once was our profession like this (like this)... Before they looked out for us to graduate, I did not know what happened to her.” You shouldn't watch a video like this."

As Hala wrote, “Don’t they think that tomorrow they grow up the same thing they do will be done to them? The world is a religion and loyalty to everyone.”

In this context, Aya placed the blame not only on the hospital, but also on the Ministry of Health, saying, “I believe that if there is oversight, not just this hospital... also from the Ministry of Health, especially those in care or the elderly, we will see stories and stories.”

On the other hand, Haines believed that the matter was an unintended joke, and that “the girls are joking...and kindness and morals are evident in their features. Do not exaggerate the issue and convey an image that is not true.”

She added, "On the contrary, the video contains a lot of kindness and wit that every elderly or sick person needs."

Apology and justification

After the video clip of the Lebanese nurses spread, one of them, named Iman Shehab, came out apologizing for the situation, and justified her actions in a new video by saying that the patient who was terrorized was her relative, noting that the video was old and had been 9 months old.

She added, "Al-Maqasid Hospital is private and respectable. Is it possible that the nurses scare the patients without anyone complaining?"

In turn, Al-Maqasid Charitable Hospital issued a statement in which it announced the dismissal of nurses from work after punishing them, and said that it "condemns the shameful actions undertaken by some nurses who acted in violation of the most basic standards of the nursing profession."
